Eat somewhere you can see the sunset, and don't fuss too much about the food (in other words, we didn't find any restaurant we could say was really great when we visited - but the views were outstanding :)

There's a great Thai place about 2 or 3 miles south of town on Highway 179. I've had fantastic meals there on my last two trips to Sedona. Very much worth the relatively short drive. Wish I could recommend something closer, but I've yet to find anything exceptional right in town.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will pass these along to my boyfriend - he's there right now enjoying the sunsets without me! :)

Haven't been for a few years but the restaurant at Enchantment Resort, with nouvelle southwestern was very good and L'Auberge de Sedona, with very expensive french was also enjoyable.

My wife and I just came back from Arizona, including one very good meal in Sedona at Elote Cafe. In doing research on Sedona, we basically came to the conclusion that there wasn't much that was very good to eat in this little tourist town, perhaps with the exception of Elote Cafe. So we tried it and liked it very much. They don't take reservations, but it is a quite large restaurant. We were quoted a 30 minute wait on a Wednesday night at around 6:30 or 7pm. But there were two seats available at the bar, so we ate there.

Elote Cafe is an upscale Mexican restaurant that aims to use to use local ingredients as much as possible. It isn't anywhere close to the level of Frontera Grill, Mixteco Grill, etc. here in Chicago. But if you can put aside the great options for Mexican here in Chicago, Elote Cafe was pretty good. We started with a quesadilla with braised short ribs that was excellent (and a ton of food). We then had halibut with green mole. The mole was excellent. The fish was slightly overcooked, but was still quite tasty. Finally we had a braised lamb shank in a sweet and spicy ancho chili sauce. This was phenomenal and is apparently their featured dish. Margaritas and local beers were very good also.

The red rocks and blue skies of Sedona beckon us for hiking on a periodic basis.

The bride and I have always liked D & D. An enjoyable meal, with friendly, competent service, has been provided to us by D & D consistently on every visit since the first time we dined there 10+ years ago.

I'll 2nd Darren72 and say that Elote Cafe is great (so great that I purchased their cookbook). I loved everything about the place. The service was awesome and our 1 year old (at the time) had fun people watching. I loved the Lamb Adobo and my wife's skirt steak dish was outstanding.

The other place I really liked in Sedona was Picazzo's. Its an Arizona chain but we had an excellent pizza and Caesar salad. We stayed at the Adobe Grand Villages and since our room was so nice we got takeout and brought it back to the room for a more relaxing evening. Paired it with some local microbrews purchased at a nearby grocery store.
