riques on a saturday?

has anyone been to Riques on sheridan (at argyle, near tweet).... on a saturday for their special 'region of mexico' prix fixe she-bang? i guess the deal is, for $30, there is a set of courses from a certain area.

i was wondering if its any good. ive had their burritos and dips and some dessert. i thought those were just ok. fresh, but not amazing. but i had vegitarian things, and my boyfriend who had meat stuff loved it.

so yep, just wondering if anyone has been...

Sheer proximity (I live 1 block away) has caused me to end up at Riques on a handful of occasions. I've never had anything bad, or anything quite WOW. The range seems to be from "fine" to "very good." Service has always been very friendly, but I have to say that even when there's almost no one else there, the kitchen seems to me to be consistently very slow.

For $30, they would need to step it up a bit from what I've had to date for me to feel it was justified. At $15-20, I've been happy with it.

We've been to the Saturday regional special dinner at Rique's a couple of times. Each time, we thought the quality and value were quite good. I don't think we paid more than $25 per person. Couple that with some BYO wine, it's a good deal. I also enjoy their regular menu.

i'd add my endorsement for the regional special dinner and for anything at rique's. imho, chef enrique serves above average higher-end mexican food and is a chef who clearly loves mexico, its cuisine, and his job.

incidentally, i know that rique's and dorado are not wholly comparable, but i think that they are similar in many ways. notwithstanding the extensive praise that dorado has received on this board, judging from the 4-5 dishes that i have had there, not only did i not find dorado anything remotely worth writing home about, i'd also pick rique's over it if i was in the mood for the types off foods offered at each.

I was at Riques on a Saturday about a month ago and had the regional menu. Unfortunately, I'm totally blanking on the state that was featured (small interior state, not well known for food, but according to the quirky host, known for having lots of car manufacturing plants).
I thought the menu (which, I'm pretty sure was only $20) was very good, but certainly not mind-blowing (or that memorable, since I can't remember the region). There was an appetiter (taquitos, I believe), a small salad, a choice of two entrees and a dessert included. So, a pretty good deal, all-in-all. The regular menu items are fairly inexpensive, though, so you don't really need to order the prix-fixe if you are looking for a deal.
I enjoyed having the chance to sample some different dishes, but I have to say the food was just O.K.
I've been to Riques several times, usually under the same circumstances--when I'm taking friends who are not up for a completely authentic, dive-y experience but want to try something a little off the beaten track.
I am very fond of the bean dip appetizer and their signature dip/appetizer on the menu (can't remember the name)
