I know it isn't popular to like salad bars - and some of them do, indeed, wig me out. But, I figure I ride the El everyday, so if pestilence or the scourge really wants to get me, it doesn't have to look for an open air food bar to do the job.

I've poked around in search trying to come up with a thread that covers this topic, but I'm not having much luck. Can anyone help me build the master bar/buffet list for Chicago downtown, with commentary? Emphasis on salad, but I'll take what I can get.

    On my list so far:

Mac Kelly's Green & Things (my stand-by ... sad, no?)
    177 N Wells St
    Chicago 60606
Btwn W Lake St & W Couch Pl
    312-346-8072

Garden Village (first time today - I liked it! Overwhelming number of choices, tho)
    100 N. LaSalle St
    Chicago
    312 263 2346

Market Creations (on my list for later this week)
    312/629-4920
    Civic Opera House
20 N. Wacker Drive, third floor
    Chicago, IL 60606

It is hard sometimes to read LTH, loving the food but not so happy with the calories. Having a do-it-yourself salad list definitely help.
    Thank you in advance

Market Creations has been mentioned on this board before. I think you'll find it the best of the lot. Daily Steamed sole is always a nice choice. The American side of the buffet is good, too. Somedays even has carve it yourself leg of lamb. Fried chicken is pretty good.

The cold bar has some nice salad choices. They have excellent blue cheese dressing.

I can't remember the name of it, but the cafeteria in the basement of the Board of Trade has a good salad bar. Real roasted chicken and turkey to add to your salad. Good greens. Many prepared salads including a couscous salad. Fine dressings. Nice extras like sun dried tomatoes, tortilla strips, etc. There are also hot entrees and sandwiches which change daily. I don't believe I've tried any of those.

    Board of Trade
    141 W. Jackson
    at Jackson and LaSalle
