My parents are traveling on business for several days in Evansville, IN. Any thoughts on restaurants in that area? They don't mind driving 30 minutes in any direction. They are big on barbecue, traditonal homestyle Southern/Midwestern cooking, good homemade pie, but basically will entertain any suggestions!

For those needing a geo-location, the best I can do is Evansville is north of the Ohio river, about 50 (?) miles northwest of Owensboro, KY. Nearby towns include Chandler, Newburgh and Darmstadt.

    Thanks in advance!

Although, according to your description, it's a little more than 30 minutes away, a trip to Owensboro, KY would be a great thing especially since your parents are into BBQ. A search of LTH using Owensboro will yield a wealth of information. There are at least 5 - 6 threads that should be of interest to you.

Getting to Owensboro is duck soup: go over the bridge, go c. 4 stoplights, twist around a bit and get on the Audobon Pkwy going east. A quarter for toll and 20 mins should put you at the Moonlite bbq.

There are other places in Owensboro:

There also used to be an awfully good Korean restaurant in downtown Evansville, but that was a while ago. Worth checking out, tho'.

They tried Wolf's Barbecue in Evansville, IN, which apparently is in the latest edition of Road Food. They said, "decent."

They've been to Owensboro before but just didn't want to drive that far.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

    I LOVE that expression!

Thanks also for the Henderson recommendation. I think they are coming back a day early, but will be sure to pass it along for the next time

The Bon Ton Mini Mart in Henderson, KY has phenomenal fried chicken. Just across the Ohio River from Evansville , it is a very short drive to Henderson.

Believe it or not, there are some great German places in Jasper, IN .. which should be no more than about 20 minutes north/west of Evansville.
