I don't understand the majority of what you write in "foreign" tongues, either.

What I meant by the above was this:

I have a long-term love affair with the original Maggi™ seasoning, but I have a crush on the newest member of the Maggi™ family. ;)

Thanks. I like Maggi seasoning too and so I'm curious about this new one. But I have to confess that I don't know calamansi from calabaça or Kalamazoo, as it were. Time to learn.

even though artificially flavored? btw, you ever had the calamansi sorbet at village creamery?

Not to intrude on a private conversation (although looks on preview that zim has made it less so), but the now-defunct LT's Grill at Grand and Wood served a version of calamansi pie, owing to Larry Tucker's time in southeast Asia with the military. I believe it was done in the style of a key lime pie.

Calamansi citrus is native to the Philippines and used throughout SEA to flavour foods and drinks.

With this product, though, I cannot identify the Calamansi taste specifically.*

In any event, it has a nice, clean hit of citrus flavour.

Just like the original Maggi™ seasoning, I use it on eggs, sausage, grilled meat, rice dishes, etc.

    * It is artificially-flavoured, after all.

    Yes, even though.

Truth be told, as much as I am a stickler for clean, natural flavours, I like my fair share (and yours too) of artifically-flavoured crap.

No, but I appreciate the heads up.

I hardly ever get up to the original shop, but I might check in at Thai Pastry. They carry a few of the SEA-style flavours.

Wonderful, wonderful stuff. For those who haven't been enlightened by the foregoing, a calamansi is a kind of small-fruited lime. It's sometimes called musklime. Quite sour, with flavor between lime and mandarin orange.

Ah...calamansi! My fave citrus fruit from the Philippines!

Growing up (and even now when I have the opportunity) I like taking fresh calamansi, slicing them in half and throwing a few in my glass of water with some sugar. At my house this is what mom called "lemonade from the islands." Ah....childhood. :)

LAZ is correct in describing the taste as a cross between a lime and mandarin oranges...sweet, tart and a little sour. I have spotted frozen concentrated calamansi juice at a few of the UniMarts grocery stores awhile back - not sure if they still carry it.

The Calamansi Maggi sauce has been around awhile, at least I remember spotting that while vacationing in the Philippines for 2 months last year. There are other asian sauces/condiments that have calamansi influence, such as:

Patismansi - Fish sauce (patis) + calamansi

Toyomansi - Soy sauce (Toyo) + calamansi
