Food suggestions for goodbye Chicago party

Post #1 - April 21st, 2006, 9:59 amWe're moving out-of-state in 3 weeks and we're going to have a little gathering at our house before we go. We'd like at least some of the food and drinks to be very Chicago-y, so I'd love some suggestions for recipes or stuff to pick up that just screams "Chicago" to you.
Some of the stuff we're already considering: Vienna beef dogs with proper accompaniments; Italian beef; Berghoff &/or Goose Island beer; Chicago-style pizza; and other stuff that's slipping my mind. I thought about trying to make chicken vesuvio, but it's a lot of effort for a dish I don't actually like.
Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Berghoff beer is brewed by the Huber Brewery in Monroe, Wisconsin. Goose Island would be a more Chicago choice.

Sorry you are moving! I hope you will consider being our roving reporter of interesting food from wherever you hang your hat next. Beyond Chicagoland is really meant for you! You could add to the BYC Taqueria project ... hint!

Tcdup I was trying to avoid destination shopping, but Garrett's is a superb suggestion. May be worth a trip.
Cathy Thanks! We're moving to the Boulder, CO, area, so a may be able to come up with a taqueria. There are about 5 Mexican joints within a few blocks of our new house, though I don't know yet how good or authentic they are (and am not sure I'm sufficiently taco-savvy to be able to tell). I also have it on good authority that there's solid Chicago-style pie to be had at Old Chicago Pizza in Boulder.

Post #6 - April 26th, 2006, 1:23 pmWhat about Italian Beef? Way back when I was a meat-eater, Carm's on Wolf Rd. was my fave. We've had a few family parties w/ catered Carm's (pick-up but they may deliver, I'm not sure).

Post #7 - May 5th, 2006, 11:00 amI know you mentioned getting Goose Island Beer. But Goose Island ROOT Beer is also very good...Costco often sells it by the case.
