Restaurant near Water Tower

My parents will be going to the Drury Lane in Water Tower next week to see a play and they were thinking about going to RL for Dinner. I read some of the reveiws on the site and saw that they were mixed.

I am trying to find another place that is close to Water Tower for them to eat. I was thinking about Erie Cafe or something in the aura of RL-ish or Erie-ish. They have already been to Avenues, and did not want to go to that price point.

I saw NoMi, Bistro 100 and others, but was wondering if anyone had some recent suggestions that were not posted on the site yet.

This isn't a new suggestion, and it has been mentioned once or twice in the past, but how about The Saloon Steakhouse?

I second The Saloon, and add Spiaggia Cafe at 900 N. Michigan (Spiaggia but less dressy and cheaper). (I know that's an oversimplification but close enough.)

Is the Spagia Cafe new?

No, it's been around almost (or just) as long as Spiaggia has, I'm pretty sure.

Rosebud on Rush. This seems like it would appeal to parents. Their hamburger is the best I've had in the city.

My favorite spot in that vicinity is Bistro 110. Best roast chicken in the city, and all-around well-made bistro fare in a nice, though bustling room.

Another good French option nearby, Le Petit Paris is much quieter, and a little pricier, offering classics like onion tart and veal.

I also had a very good piece of grouper recently at the Chestnut Grill, which has a Continental menu. Tell your folks to stop back in after the show to hear the fabulous Nan Mason, who performs five nights a week in the bar -- with no cover.

Tucchi Bennuch is a pleasant spot for Italian food. I love their chopped salad.

Mike Ditka's is a meaty choice, with much better food than you'd expect from a celebrity restaurant. (And Ditka really does hang out there when he's in town, often in in the the upstairs cigar bar, where John Vincent sings Sinatra nightly Tuesday through Saturday.)

Mity Nice Grill offers good American fare, as does the Grill on the Alley (nice puff-pastry-topped pot pie). And people on this board pick on the Cheesecake Factory for being a something-for-everyone chain, but I like it.

For a quick nosh, two viable options are Chicago Flat Sammies, the sandwich shop in the Water Works building, and Wow Bao, the steamed bun stall across the street in Water Tower Place. Foodlife, also in Water Tower Place, is another casual spot with a food court ambiance but a an extensive menu you can graze your way through.

Howdy - chiming in to third the Saloon. Hope your parents have a great night.

While I've never been to Saloon, it was just on Check Please today. So you might want to make reservations as I'm sure it'll be pretty busy there now.

I went to Rosebud Steakhouse on...Walton(? Not the one on Rush) and I thought it was great, as did my dining partners.
