Today I explored the Woodlawn (Irish immigrant) and Wakefield (West Indian immigrant) areas of the North Bronx. One expects a nice cool glass of Guinness on tap in Woodlawn, but on my return to the subway I stopped in an a West Indian Ice Cream Parlour (Gerri's Quality Ice Cream, "Specializing in Caribbean Flavors"). There on the wall was the list of ice creams: Mango, Guava, Papaya, Sour Sop, and - Guinness Stout. I ordered one scoop of Sour Sop and one of Guiness Stout. And sat oh so happily listening to the music, watching the passing scene, and eating my Guinness Stout.
How was it? Well, on a sunny 75 degree day even ordinary ice cream is wonderful.
