Kid Friendly places on N side or in NW burbs?

The kids are 10 yrs old and under and well behaved. We need moderately priced reccomendations, pizza places, burgers and Italian. Maybe some nice neighborhood places. Thanks fior the help!!

Although it sounds funny to recommend an Irish bar in response to your request, we were at Chief O'Neill's on Elston for an early pre-theater dinner on Friday night, and the dining room was full of families with children--some of them rambunctious (which normally would irk), but the happy, tolerant mood of the place made even the rambunction seem nice. You mentioned burgers, which is what three out of four of us had, and they were fine.

You can't miss with a visit to the Choo Choo (Hamburger on Wheels) in Des Plaines. Decent handmade burgers brought to you on a model train (if you sit at the counter). Shakes are old fashioned great but sundaes are syrup (not fudge) only. The turkey chile is just fine. I'm amused that they usually sneak a couple of baby carrots under the french fries for the kids.

This is probably farther into the city than you want to go, but Buona Terra in Logan Square is a great place to take kids. In addition to being a really delicious, tasty, all-around high-quality place, they serve 1/2 portions of pasta that are still very generous and more than a match for most kids. Plus they are really nice to kids there and never make one feel as if children are just tolerated. I do recommend going early, though.

If you're willing to head north instead of NW, Del Rio in Highwood is a convivial neighborhood Italian spot that welcomes kids. That's generally true of the Italian places in Highwood, but we're particularly fond of the food and warm atmosphere at Del Rio.

Gullivers on Howard Street in Chicago (on the Evanston boarder), is great for kids. The pizza is good (nothing amazing, but kids will like it), and the whole atmosphere in there is pretty cool.
