Paprikash Arlington Heights

Want to report in that I had an excellent dinner tonight with five friends at the new Paprikash Hungarian spot in Arlington Heights. It is on N. W. Hwy and Euclid, the site of the old Cap'n Rapps. The place is totally remodeled with a very comfortable atmosphere and live music on Tuesday evening! We enjoyed chicken paprikash, veal paprikash, duck, and lamb shank. All diners raved. It is clearly hearty, comfort food, a bit heavy but well prepared. All entrees come with a type of spatzel and soup and salads are extra. The entrees are about $20. The service is friendly and they are good at recommending Hungarian wines which complement the food and are priced under $30. This is the second Paprikash as the first has been on Diversey for years. It is a good addition to the northwest suburbs.

Thanks for the review and heads up on this place. The husband loves this kind of food. However, with the weather warming up we probably won't make our way over there until October or so. We love that kind of food and atmosphere when it's chilly out. On the other hand, this is Chicago so it could be snowing next week.

Have you ever tried Fritzl's in Lake Zurich on Rt. 12 across from Hackney's?

I've been to Fritzl's a couple of years ago.
Nice food, quite a variety of schnitzels available. Didn't try any stewed/braised dishes, everybody went for the breaded cutlets.

Fritzl's in Lake Zurich was good years ago. Last time I was there the place was empty and the food horrendous. I am convinced that an excursion to Milwaukee is necessary for German food.

Big Dar...Sorry, my reply to you was worded incorrectly. We live very close to Fritzl's and it has become one of our "go to" places during the cooler months. True, it's not Mader's, but great considering it's a 15 minute drive from home and everything we've had there has been good. The staff are very nice and the main dining room is rather cozy. I like the bar too. The person behind the bar is always friendly and knows how to mix a drink.

We just started going there last year so I can't say whether the food is improved or not since your last visit, but it's always packed during the weekend. The dining room looks as if it's been recently redecorated so perhaps there has been a managment change over.

I understood from our waitress at Paprikash that they have music every night they are open. Three players, violin, bass viol, and a cymbalom ( hammer dulcimer). Very enjoyable. Our meal was just o.k., so we'll give them a bit longer to get up to speed.
