My coworkers would not stop talkin about "New China Buffet" (specifically the Lemont in Darien the location), one dude kept on going: at the "old place" - referring to NCB, "they have this.. this and that", and one lady kept on repling with: "no way! where do they put it, i never saw it there".

this conversation excited me so much that adjusted my dinner plans ASAP and ended up at:

one can skip the pseudo-Mexican food, but the roast duck was better than i expected; ditto to the roast pig. the fruit 'smoothies' are all freshly made, with the honeydew being the best. on the chinese side, there is scallion crab legs, salt and peppter squid / peppers but the honey mayo shrimp and short ribs are piss poor... i know there are previous mentions of how NCB is taking over the suburbs and is now a miniempire of Americanized-Chinese food buffet. however, i still feel this buffet is more gastronomically interesting than any Todai... especially at $9.** - 10% off coupons.

    there are over 15 locations:

the best ending to a chinese buffet: Frozen Lychee:

btw, there is the 'right' way to peel a lychee:

and there's the WRONG way to peel lychee:

We have had a New China Buffet in our neighborhood for years. My mother-in-law first introduced us to this place when my kids were little. The food must vary a lot from location to location, because we stopped going there years ago. Everything was horribly greasy -- and what's authentic about refrigerator biscuits rolled in sugar and fried?

However, based on your post, TonyC, I'd be willing to brave it again.

    LTH,

No comment one way or the other, just a simple heads up. China Buffet has, or is about to, open on the 2500 N block of Milwaukee Ave.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

When I passed by last week on the way to roller derby practice, there was a banner that said the grand opening was May 3rd.

Well if this is the best, then I am glad I didn’t try any others. Based on the info on this board I went there for lunch about 3 weeks ago. I can’t complain about the choice or the quantity of food items. But when the best you can say about the food on the plate is: “well that’s not bad”, then I would only recommend this place for people on a budget who want to eat a lot of cheap food.
