Breakfast for Seven Near Milwaukee & Lawrence?

Post #1 - May 26th, 2006, 1:57 pmMil-walk-ee Veterans! Denizens of the Northwest Side! Jefferson Park Mavens!
Can anyone recommend a good breakfast spot appropriate for an informal business meeting within about a half-mile of Milwaukee & Lawrence? More flapjack than pah-jun, more scrambled eggs than huevos rancheros - these are not 100% intrepid eaters. Edgebrook seems a bit too far; IHOP seems a bit too gross. Needs to have a big enough table to accommodate all of us with relative ease. I'd be grateful for your suggestions!

Sally's sounds right up your alley, but it's on Harlem just south of Bryn Mawr. A short drive from there but not exactly the same neighborhood.

Post #3 - May 26th, 2006, 2:10 pmIf not right around there, then further east is probably better than further west. We'll all be in cars, but will be coming from places like ukie village, logan square, uptown, downtown, hyde park and evanston.

Post #5 - May 26th, 2006, 3:11 pmI have eaten there, but not in a few years. Typical old school family restaurant ala Dappers, Lincoln, Golden Waffle. Kinda place where your 3 packs a day uncle would've hung out. A favorite of the local grandparent set. Generous servings, bread baskets, soups, iceberg salads. Nothing fancy by any means, but for the unadventurous types, probably a safe bet.Moses supposes his toeses are roses, but Moses supposes erroneously. Moses, he knowses his toeses aren't roses, as Moses supposes his toeses to be.

Post #6 - May 26th, 2006, 3:23 pmBlue Angel is OK but I'd recommend instead the Super Cup (also known as the Silver Cup). It's solid Greek Coffee Shop fare with tables big enough to accommodate your group. I think both the food and the atmosphere are better than Blue Angel.

Post #8 - May 26th, 2006, 4:52 pmI live around the corner from Sally's and refuse to go there. Maybe it's because I never order the pancakes and it's a pancake house. A year ago I gave Sally's another chance with my coffeehouse food test: turkey club sandwich on wheat toast, and they did poorly [salty, flavorless turkey, dry bread, poorly cooked fries, no cole slaw]. If I thought the place had good food, I'd know everybody by name now.
Blue Angel's probably your best bet [tho' I haven't been to Super Cup]. I keep thinking I'm forgetting something better & will post if I remember what the @#&!! it is.

Post #10 - May 27th, 2006, 2:10 amI recently had the Belgian waffle at Blue Angel. If any in your party are "waffling," direct them to that choice. It was one of the best waffles I've ever had.
