A hot new place in Manhatten is called the Shake Shack. It's right in Madison Park, and it's a typical walk up burger and shake joint with outdoor seating. It's pretty cool in the middle of the city. The menu is all midwest. The hot dog and wurst are both called Chicago style, described as "dragged through the garden" with all the typical Chicago dog toppings. They serve frozen custard, which is explained to the natives as "soft serve meets gourmet ice cream." A pretty good description, actually. Finally, in a St. Louis tribute, they serve concretes, which I believe were invented at Ted Drewes, and now served here in town at Scooters.

yeah, that place is awesome. They have a really good deep fried portabella burger. I didn't think it was new, though...

Shake Shack has been around for several years. They open seasonally. To my knowledge, they're the only place in NY that serves Vienna products. The only thing missing is a good Italian beef sandwich with lots of giardinara!

I believe Martha Stewart profiled(and worked behind the counter) at Shake Shack on her show last Spring.
