Ok, here's a challenge - I'm regularly downtown on Sunday early evenings with friends and everything seems to be closed. We've ventured over to Greek Town, but that's about it. Any suggestions for places within walking distance of Union Station that stay open?
    Thanks!

One of the trio of Italian Village restaurants called "The Village" serves inexpensive, okay Italian. If you're hankering for a steak, Grillroom Chophouse is across the Schubert theatre. Both are on Monroe and are a little bit of a walk but not a killer. Here's the Chicago Tribune review on Grillroom: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dini ... 4380.story
I have not been to Encore but it is a hike to its location on Randolph
from Union Station. I haven't eaten in the Loop for a couple of years so you may want to confirm the times.

    Grillroom Chophouse
    33 W. Monroe St.
    312-960-0000
    5-10:30 p.m. Sun.

    The Village
    71 W. Monroe St.
    312-332-7005
    12 p.m.-12 a.m. Sunday

    Encore
    171 W. Randolph St.
    312-338-3788
    4 p.m.-12 a.m. Sunday

Consider the following, as always, do verify hours and availabilities. Also, public transportation within Chicago downtown area even on Sunday allows for a wider range, or a reasonable cab ride shared with the group is worth the trip for more varied choices:

    - Avec
    615 W. Randolph St.
    312-377-2002

    - Custom House
    500 S. Dearborn St.
    312-523-0200

    - Chinatown with the varied choices cited in this forum, Lao Szechuan for Szechuan cuisine. For dim sum: Pheonix, Happy Chef, New Shui Wah, etc. For cantonese coffee houses: St. Anna, Ken Kee, BBQ King (spans other genre as well), etc. The best part with ethnic areas is to explore.

    - Walk a couple of blocks and take a bus to River North for small plates and wine: Oesteria del Stato, Bin 36, Quartino, etc.

    - Randolph street restaurants - Marche, Virgin, etc.

Those are a few to start to consider for Sunday afternoons.

I know you mean "decent" relatively speaking but I wouldn't even go that far. Unfortunately, I'm not steering you towards anything but at least, away from My Thai.
