    Hello friends!

I'm going to be in Boston this weekend for a conference and would love to have some New England lobster. I have been to Legal Seafood but I find it to be too pricey. Any recommendations? What do you think of this place "No Name"? A friend also mentioned a restaurant near the harbour that (of course) he couldn't recall the name of. Any ideas? Thanks! :D

Travel North or South along the coast and look for the lobster stands. They are like our hot dogs stands. You can get whole maine lobster for a very reasonable price.

If you have a car and time to travel to Portland (or at least halfway there).

Something I find unique in New England is the availability of clam bellies (or whole clams vs the strips); They're akin to fried oysters in this fashion and highly preferably IMHO to strips (which I don't eat).

Visit Chinatown for inexpensive lobsters; Saw a table behind us a week ago, sponsored by a surgical rep serving one of those 3-4lb monsters. You can get 2 lobsters (chickens) for $13.88 if you order 5 dishes in many Chinese restaurants. Try Pearl Villa (low-key) or East Ocean (high-end and better ambiance). East Ocean has live tanks of lobsters, dungeness, spot prawns, shrimp, tilapia, barramundi, sea bass and something called stone-head fish (I still cannot discern the type of fish it really is...)

I just ate at Legal's for the first time; A nice meal - we really enjoyed their bucket of mussels and the grilled scallop salad.

It was 2 years ago but the daily catch in the north end had really good food. I was in Boston 5 days visisting a friend and managed to go here 3 times for the really fresh seafood. The best meal I had was the lobster fra diavlo. It looks like they have gone from a shack type place to a tourist destination with the website and new opening of another spot, so beware. But that said this place was really good when I went there and the North end is a great neighborhood to explore.

I'll second the Daily Catch. We went there in mid-November and had some fabuluous seafood pasta--squid ink "black" pasta, to be exact. They do some skillet meals that the locals seem to really gang up on. Suit and a skirt walk in, nod to the proprietoress, and the skillet starts up immediately, no words being exchanged.

They didn't have the web site then, and, just like Da Beef, I'm a bit leery.

Paul Revere's place is just over on the next block.

And CoolerByTheLake has a treat for you in Haymarket Square, about 6.3 minutes walk from Daily Catch. Check this:

If you go to Daily Catch, pls report back, we need to know how they're doing.

The best place to get seafood of any sort in Boston's China Town in Peach Farm Seafood. It's were the Boston Chowhounds gather pretty much every year on Chinese Now Years to feast.

(thinking about that 2002 dinner still makes my head hurt btw). They are increadibly skilled with the fryer, steamer and wok. I'd love someone ellse to compare their S+P shrimp (with pork!) to LTH as I'm biased with my 2 years working 15 min from PFS. Anyway they do killer lobsters, clams with BB, and oysters (up to 8") with BB sauce. Don't miss this place if you have a chance.
