I will be at the Hyatt Recency at 151 East Wacker Drive for 12 days in July. I am looking for good value restaurants nearby. If anyone knows of early bird specials, that would be even better as we have to eat early(around 5PM)/ Thanks

You might want to check out the early evening bar buffet at Trattoria 10. Give them a call first, since I don't when they open or on which days it's offered.

A little more upscale and a long walk or a short cab ride away is Custom House, which offers a pretheatre prix fixe dinner ($42) at 5:00 and 5:30.
    Here's their website:

The Atwood Cafe has a fixed price pre theatre menu from 5 to 7:

I think you'll find a lot of that type of thing in the theatre district a few blocks south of your hotel. You might look theatre dining and Chicago up in a search engine and see what there is to see.

Could you give us a better idea of what cuisines you enjoy? Since Chicago has so much to offer, almost any sort of dining experience is available, but we need your parameters to help much. How important is convenience/location to you? Do the options have to be within walking distance, or are you willing to take the El or a cab?

Check out the burger at McCormick & Schmick's bar for $1.95 (with a 1-drink purchase). Regardless of price, I find their burger to be quite enjoyable.

The happy hour at McCormick & Schmick's is a good suggestion. Conveniently, a new branch is set to open Saturday, July 8 about a block from the Hyatt. My understanding is that the menu will be much the same and the happy hour will be offered weekdays from 3:30 to 6 (but check to be sure!).

Also in the immediate vicinity is the newest Morton’s, The Steakhouse. They have a discounted bar menu weekdays from 4 to 6:30 and 9:30 to 11. Although I haven’t yet been to either of these new places, I would expect both to be an excellent value (with the discount, that is).
