The other posters are correct -- Golf is a tiny residential community with (not too surprisingly) a golf course, a train station, and a few houses. It is across the street from Kraft Foods -- and that seems to set the tone for the nearby restaurants. However, a bit farther south, on Waukegan Rd. near Dempster, is the Black Forest, which is pretty good German place.

About 15 minutes beyond Golf (traveling east), but still on Golf Rd., Filipiniana in Niles is fun -- packed almost entirely with Filipinos, which is always a good sign. (Niles is a big Asian center -- loads of great Asian shopping, from India to Korea.)

There are a bunch of pleasant but unexceptional places at the corner of Gold Rd. and Skokie Blvd. (41) -- in Old Orchard, Corner Bakery, Maggiano's, Cheesecake Factory, and kitty-corner, at the North Shore Hotel, the Daily Grill. Nothing special, but better than what you'll find closer to the village of Golf.
The best place really close to Golf (kitty-corner, on Golf Rd. immediately west of Waukegan Rd.) is Popeye's -- great red beans and rice (actually made in New Orleans).
So it all depends on what you're looking for -- a great food experience or just something to eat. Because there are not a lot of great food options really close to Golf. (And while you say you'll be coming from the east, which you would have to to reach Golf from 94 or 41, you don't state whether you're coming from the north or the south, which might affect the number of recomendations possible.
