After a cancelled show last night (hint hint check out Medea which I'm in, as is Kerensa at the Chopin Theater - http://www.backstagetheatrecompany.org/) Kerensa and I and the rest of the cast stopped in for a beer at Mac's, an otherwise unextraordinary bar on Division 4 blocks west of Ashland. Aside from an unusually slender selection of waitresses and barkeeps, and an unusually flat tonic water spigot, this bar had unexpectedly delicious fries - very crispy, looked hand-cut, served with a cup of ranch dressing. I ordered a basket that disappeared in a couple of minutes flat and then another basket was dispatched and dispatched. I can't recommend much else on the menu - the beer was cold, but the fries ... damn![/i]

    Seth,

Good to hear about the fries, bad to hear about the cancellation of the show. I see it runs through the 23rd of July -- The Wife and I will try to make it (I usually jump at the chance to see one of the tragedies performed, as they do not seem to be done often).

PS. Nice stuff in Reader this week.

Whatever you do, do not ever, ever, ever get the tuna there. Trust me.

But yeah, the fries are good.

I have never had a problem getting the bar staff to tune at least one of the many televisions at Mac's in to the sporting event of my choice. So, for that alone, it is worth something to me. And, while it has been some time since I've had one, the steak sandwich is reliably good.

Are they still serving cask-conditioned beers?

re: cask conditioned beer - they are. When I asked the waitress "what's the deal with that?" she mumbled something in german in reply and then said "It's warm beer...." with a sneer that convinced me to stick with 312.

    PS. Thanks Hammond. You too!

Know nothing about the fries, but the play...

    Well worth it!
