    LTH -

I have an extended group of friends coming to town in early August for the Tom Waits show at the Auditorium Theatre and have been asked to find a place within easy walking distance for food & drinks (mostly drinks I'd bet) where people can gather before the show - I'd guess we're talking about a couple of dozen people.

I'm not very familiar with that part of town to begin with, and I am absolutely drawing a blank on this - and a search here turned up zilch.

I'm not expecting to find a gem, just someplace decent.

    Thanks in advance....
I exist in Chicago, but I live in New Orleans.

The Printers' Row Hackney's is always my first recommendation for that kind of meal in that area. We were there recently for the Book Fair and had an enjoyable, typical Hackeney's meal (burger and onion loaf). You may also want to try Grace O'Malley's, which is a bit of a walk from the Auditorium, but not unreasonably far. Nothing special, but probably will be less crowded than Hackney's.

Thanks, Jim - I had thought of Hackney's but for some reason thought it was too far away from the theater. Just MapQuested it & it's a real easy walk.

I guess I should probably disclose that I have been friends with Jim Hebson, the Hackney clan descendant in charge of the Printer's Row location, for many years - we went to college together back in the day at NU.

I just purchased Tom Waits tix also! Perhaps I should wear a fancy LTH bowling shirt to the event.

It's too bad Harold's isn't BYOB... Last Auditorium Theater show I hit, we tailgated in the south parking lot and brought over a couple chickens from Harold's and some livers, drank beers and enjoyed the sun. It was a lot of fun and delicious.

If your group likes sushi, there's Oysy on South Michigan. I'm a sushi neophyte so hardly and expert, but I've enjoyed what I've had there.
