I used to lived in Arlington Heights, from 1995-1997. My favorite all-time Chinese carryout is New Hong Kong. It was in downtown Arlington Heights across from Harry's. I know that New Hong Kong closed after I moved away.

This is a total stretch, but does anyone know if the owners of New Hong Kong opened up a new Chinese carryout?

They moved to the Westgate shopping center.Corner of Campbell and Wilke just out of downtown.Peggy Kinannes sits where New Hong Kong was.I've lived downtown Arl for 20 years and have seen many changes "for the better" and NHK is still a great Chinese carryout.

Is it still called New Hong Kong? How certain are you that it is the same owners/recipes?

I don't want to get prematurely excited until I'm convinced I can get the same food I used to get.

Thanks a million for the info!

If you go into Peggy Kinnane's, there's a photo hanging right next to the bar of the old building that stood on that corner. A friend of mine took that photo and its companion (of the new building right after it opened).

Frankly, I always thought New Hong Kong was okay-- I've gone there a few times since 1990 in both locations. Chin's and South China were much better IMHO, at least until they both went under new ownership earlier this year.

Thanks,i'll look for that photo.I agree about New Hong Kong.Very generic imo.And i could tell you a story about Chin's and their new management that would get deleted.I miss Mary and Eddie Chin and "their"Chin's!

    Now I'm intrigued. :-)

My absolute favorite Chinese place was Far East Restaurant in Des Plaines, but they're long gone. Now one of the family members runs a dollar store in Elk Grove Village.
