Pardon me if this has been discussed, I couldn't find anything after a quick search. Can anyone tell me of a source for Ball canning jars either close to the loop or on the north side, though not too far north. I used to get them at Edward Don and Krasny, my new supply house, hasn't had them.

I'm usually able to find canning supplies at Ace hardware.

    HI,

There is a thread on canning supplies.

I try not to buy new, I usually buy canning jars at rummage sales for a dime. Ball, Kerr and the off-brand available at Odd Lots or Big Lots are all made by the same company: Jarden whose website is www.homecanning.com.

Walmart, Jewel, Dominicks, Big Lots/Odd Lots, Ace Hardware, Woodman's sell canning jars. The cheapest is Big Lots, though they are not as cheap as they were before being acquired by Jarden. Of course, I would let my fingers do the walking because no point chewing up time and gas to find they keep them seasonally, which is the case with Big Lots and Walmart.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I last bought them at the Jewel on Western at Roscoe. Cathy is right that many stores carry them seasonally. As she said, call ahead.

    An addendum:

One time Ace did not have the size/style of jars I needed. They offered to special order them, and called me within the week to come and pick them up.

Cub Foods also carries canning jars. Look in the produce section as well as housewares.

Menards usually has a good selection of canning jars as well.
