Alinea vs. LeFrancais: Please Help me choose

Hi,
My 10th wedding anniversary is coming up and I am trying to choose between these 2 restaurants for dinner. I know they are both very different. Does anyone care to weigh in on which you would choose and why?

There are very good reasons to choose either restaurant. What kind of experience are you looking for? What are some other high-end places you enjoy?

If you want to hold hands and gaze into each other's eyes, I'd go with Le Français. The food is awesome, but it is not intellectually challenging and doesn't require long explanations and occasional instructions. Alinea is amazing, but I feel like you need to stay focused on the food, on the experience, not on your companion. That's just my reaction. I love both places, but feel like Le Français might be better for romance. Sort of the difference between a really good movie and a really good magic show -- I don't think anyone cuddles during a great magic show.

I have never eaten at Alinea, but Le Francais is definitely a romantic, formal dining room. Sadly my last experience there, a Saturday a couple of weeks ago, was not good. The food was good, but the service was unacceptable for that kind of place, and it really was not that busy. That said, my other 2 visits since chef Liccione (sp?) has returned were very good. -Will
