This morning a peek in the fridge revealed a fresh quart of buttermilk and a new pint of fat blueberries. This suggested blueberry pancakes. But the cool kitchen was holding its own against the warming temperature outside and I did not want to get our two-burner cast iron griddle heating up the kitchen and the entire house.
So we thought to see if we could griddle on the gas grill outside. Does everybody but us griddle on their grills all the time? This was our first time.
We thought just to put the cast iron griddle on the grill plates and turn on the burners. What could go wrong? It actually worked well as these pics show.
The griddle is hot and the batter is poured. Will it work?

Breakfast on the patio. And the kitchen is still cool!
We used "Dad's recipe":
1 pint blueberries -- wash, drain and dry on paper towels.
2 med or 1 large egg
1 tsp vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk
Beat eggs in bowl. Add oil and buttermilk and mix well with fork.
1 level cup flour
1 level teaspoon baking powder
i level tesapoon baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1 teaspoon sugar
Mix dry ingredients in a small bowl.
Add dry ingredients to egg mixture and mix with a fork no more than twenty strokes. Batter may still have streaks of dry flour. Fold in 2/3 of the blueberries. Let batter stand for 10 minutes.
Heat and oil griddle. Stir batter one more time then ladle out 1/4 cupfuls of batter and cook, turning once. Yum.
I may have to make some corn pancakes tonight. --J
