Tomorrow we leave for a semi-annual trek to Chicago and environs (staying in Downers Grove). Outside of the major food groups (Italian beef and pizza) I hearken for good fresh polish sausage and the kiszka of my youth (spent a lot of time on the NW side with relatives). Outside of Bobak's, any recs for places to get some great fresh polish sausage and especially kiszka (or its alternate spellings?). There used to be a decent little polish deli in Woodridge but it's no longer. Thanks.

Solty's Deli: It might not be great, but it's certainly convenient enough. Per Google, they are supplied (at least in part) by Crawford Sausage, whose products can also be found at Pete's Market and the Hyde Park Co-op.

They have a long fridge unit at the counter containing at least two varieties of polish sausage (smoked and fresh), various pierogis, and other deli items. The rest of the store has groceries (teas, candies, etc.) I seem to recall that they rent Polish movies there. It's largely a Polish-speaking affair, if that kind of thing affects your judgment of a place's credentials.

Bobak's has an outlet on 75th Street in Naperville, that should be easy from Downers.

There are a couple of places in Lemont where you could get that sausage.

Totura's has been making its own Polish sausage for at least the past thirty years (probably much longer). Many in my family swear by it.

    80 Main St

There also is a Polish deli in Lemont out at McCarthy and Walker Roads. Not only do they have various sausages, but they have other Polish staples as well. I like the Polish pickles that they sell.

    12257 Walker Rd

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I had totally forgot about Solty's (didn't know the name but had driven by a couple years ago). And if I head south I'll check out the two places in Lemont as well.
