I was going to title this thread "Mother-loving brownies at a mother-loving chicken place" but decided against it.
But, you heard me right. Chicago's best brownies are available for purchase at an unlikely place: Metropolis Rotisseria at 924 W. Armitage.
Metropolis has long been a go-to delivery place in my home: nice, moist chicken, and lovely sides such as white bean stew, soft polenta with herbs, and a pretty good caesar salad.
Tonight, I decided it was that kind of night, myself suffering from a strained tendon and some bone bruising in my left foot-- crutches and cooking don't tend to mix well. For future reference, if you're walking between Hoyne and Damen on Dickens, watch out for the mother-loving hole in the mother-loving sidewalk. I went down like an old lady, in front of a church full of people leaving after 10 AM services. Awesome.
But, back to the brownies. They are fudgy, dense, enormous (the size of at least two well-cut brownies at other bakeries) made with really, really good chocolate and probably 8 sticks of butter. I threw them into my order (placed lovingly on grubhub.com) as a last minute thought. I expected them to at least be decent, based on the overall quality of other items at Metropolis. I didn't expect my eyes to roll back in my head and be transported to some sort of brownie induced altered state of consciousness.
I am now a bit scared that I will NEED to order these brownies to accompany my chicken on a scarily regular basis. I instructed my husband to monitor my bank account and if he sees charges to Metropolis more than once a month or so, to cut me off.
Seriously, they're that good. For those not enamored of brownies, well you're weird: but Metropolis includes little "samples" of their pretty good homemade italian ice with each chicken order.
