I was watching the Daily Show a while back and there was a really funny segment by their "youth culture" correspondent about the trend of hookah smoking. In the midst of talking to a "hookak expert" who is woefully oblivious to the mockumentary aspect of the whole thing, the correspondent has the following exchange, which includes what I found to be a hilarious statement about the Olive Garden:
Rough Transcript wrote:HOOKAH EXPERT: One thing I've heard from people is that in the last couple of years at least one thing that may have contributed to the hookah -- water pipe -- smoking in America is soldiers coming back from Iraq, having been exposed to this part of Arabic culture.
INTERVIEWER: That's awesome. From World War II we got Olive Garden.
HOOKAH EXPERT: I didn't know that.
INTERVIEWER: Yeah, because Italy, was, people weren't sure what side they were on. We figured well let's take their culture, their food culture and make it as nebulous as their allegiance was in the war. Is Olive Garden American or is it Italian? I don't know. Most people just think it's sh*t.
