Birthday dinner in Rockford

I just learned that a close friend is traveling on business this week and will be in Rockford. Her birthday is on Wednesday (9/6), so I'm going to drive to Rockford to meet her for dinner. I've searched this forum for reviews of "finer dining" restaurants in Rockford, but have found only casual spots. Can anyone recommend a restaurant for a birthday dinner in Rockford or environs?

I ate at a wine bar named Bacchus in downtown Rockford about two years ago which was very good (not particularly memorable but solid). We ate at the bar. But they also have a sit-down restaurant which serves tapas and pizza. It's somewhat casual but a decent choice for a birthday dinner.

I haven't been to Bacchus since they made the switch to Brio, but it was one of the better (quality-wise and for ambiance) venues in Rockford. Again, I haven't been there personally, but have heard good things about Joseph's a newer seafood restaurant. Nippons is the go-to place for sushi and Japanese cuisine.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I didn't make the birthday dinner in Rockford Wed night. However, my friend and her co-workers decided to go to Brio/Bacchus based on your recommendations, and said it was great. They asked me to thank you, so, thank you. They were _very_ pleased. (Not being foodies, they didnt' give me a lot of detail, so guess we'll just leave it at that.) Thanks!
