Windowsill grill?

LTH Grillmasters,

A friend of a friend says there's a windowsill grill out there - hooks to the exterior of a window. Anyone seen one? Used one?

Although I'm inclined to doubt it simply because of the inevitable fire hazard and associated nightmare liability issues, one could, I suppose, use the Weber camping grill. It has legs, albeit designed to set up on the ground somewhere, not next to the clapboards or aluminum siding. Still, if one is determined enough (and has an understanding insurance company), one could certainly try. On the other hand, why not just stick a Hibachi there?

And, though it's not remotely what you asked for, the fun of looking around on the Internet is that you get to find some pretty amazing sites. This particular one features more contraptions than I could ever have imagined had been invented, much less theorized.

Gypsy Boy - thanks. I have seen those Weber camping grills - and I used to use a Smokey Joe Gold on a fire escape. And if it's any comfort I'm interested in testing this mythical windowsill grill on a metal railing on a stone-sided building - with a fire extinguisher on hand.

And yes, I know the Kitchen Contraptions site - some very cool stuf - some bad stuff - like that glass cutting board!

I would not recommend it, but there are a number of grills designed for clamping onto metal boat railings - outboard, over the water. These are pretty safe when used as intended over water but I can envision all kinds of dire results - one in particular involving Mrs. O'Leary's cow.

Are you thinking gas or coals? Ground level?

Bill - thanks for the warning - I do understand and appreciate them and will take proper precautions if and when necessary - I promise. Any of the boat grills you'd recommend? I'm thinking coals. And what do you mean by ground level? Thanks again!

I don't know the folks next door, but they have one. I'll see if I can scope out any details.

Seem em, never used em. Though what I have seen has been on the order of trailer hitch type, which seems as if it would be adaptable for window sill use.

All in all, they seem a bad idea, too small, too flimsy, a disaster in the making. I'd echo the above advice to go with a small portable grill or hibachi type if actual use, as opposed to aesthetics, is key.
