    Thermomix HQ website

i keep on seeing this thing popup in magazines, blog sites, blah blah blah.. is it REALLY the ultimate driving machine? and if chefs really do use it widely... why would we need them when we can get the machine?

Do we need bakers now that there are automated bread-makers?

After reading a couple articles about the Thermomix (this one, in particular), it has the same drawbacks as any other versatile tool. That is, in unskilled hands, it's still going to produce an inferior product. In skilled hands, I'm sure it can be a useful tool.

Do I need a $1,000 chopper/measurer/cooker? Definitely not. I have a stove, a knife, and a measuring cup. And I know how to use them.

Quite often, the latest and greatest tool is an unneccessary replacement for something that already perfectly fits a need. When we made up our wedding registry, someone asked me why I didn't register for a rice cooker, I told them, "I already have one. It's called 'a pot'".

    Best,
    Michael

Thermomix uses the "direct seller" approach. They want you to have an in-home demonstration in order to make a sale.

I can't think of any circumstance where I am going to have a "friend" come to my house for an hour to demonstrate a kitchen appliance.
