Foolishly ordered saag ghosh there last night (ahem, no spinach!) - they were offering a very good ghosh masala instead!

Key item of note was a large banner proclaiming the opening of a new Baba's at 310 S. Canal - man at the counter said next week or so should be open. Will be very useful for loop lunches I hope. If/when anyone tries this, hope to see a post.

Thanks for the reminder. I saw this last week and meant to post. Had beef nehari and chicken biryani. Wow, the biryani was just great, and my portion included an enormous cinnamon stick. On the other hand, the nan was probably the worst I've ever had, anywhere. Old and reheated. Nasty. Chapati was good, go figure. Nehari was fine. I don't go there expecting anything that's made to order to be great. But the long-cooked stuff is always solid.

That corner of the south loop is only getting better.

That's unusual - the naan is usually made fresh. Mine was fine on Saturday. That said, its homestyle naan & always more cooked & brown than you'll see in restaurant settings.

I should have mentioned that I consider the old nan to be an extreme abberation, based on my experience. I'm more of a paratha guy myself, so I was doubly disappointed with the nan (since it was not for me and I had to share my bread).

Baba's is a great place, and I'm sure the main man would have taken the nan back if he or I saw its condition, but it came wrapped in foil from the back, to go.

Where is this place? Went looking for it today and couldn't find it. The address puts it in the Parking Ramp with the nail salon. Is that where it's at, or am I just being dense. Any help will be appreciated. Signifigant other works in that area and we've just about exhausted mutually agreeable lunch destinations.

I like Baba Palace, (nan has always been great to me, you just have to eat it all within about 15-20 minutes out of the oven), but I liked it much better when the old guy in the traditional garb worked there. 2 other guys there are OK, and 1 guy who seems to be there a lot, I really don't like. So I find myself going to Flaming Wok 'n' Grill, which is great. And the staff there is very friendly.

A phone call to the number below drew a response that they will open the loop location in "a few weeks or earlier"....and at 310 S. Canal.

There is a sign on the window of the new location ("Village Cafe - Indian and Pakistani Food"), stating that they'll open on Monday, June 25th at 10:30 a.m. Fingers are crossed that they get it right, as it'll be a welcome addition to that part of the loop.
