    New York joins the food-fascist-foofaraw:
New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden wrote:Trans fat causes heart disease. Like lead in paint, artificial trans fat in food is invisible and dangerous, and it can be replaced.

While it may take some effort, restaurants can replace trans fat without changing the taste or cost of food. No one will miss it when it's gone.

They will have 18 months to cut trans fats down to .5gm/serving
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?

He's seriously comparing trans-fats to lead paint, which causes brain damage and mental retardation in children? That's over-the-top.

There is a certain comfort in thinking that we're not the only nanny-city, but I find it more disturbing than anything. This is yet more evidence that government intrusion into food choices isn't isolated local idiocy, but rather a growing national trend. Maybe I'm playing Chicken Little, but I can't help but feel that this will merely be the beginning if it isn't nipped in the bud.

    Foie Inanity Reaches New York

Man, if this hits D'Artangnan, you have to expect an even huger uproar.

Edit: To be clear, it looks like this will only affect foie production in NJ, of which, as far as I know, there is none. Phew.
