Extramsg will be arriving in Chicago momentarily and he has asked me to take him to dinner at a (new to him) Thai restaurant.

    I've decided on Aroy Thai.

They need to keep it moving, so we will be there at 7pm sharp.

Any and all are welcome to join us.

I'll be ordering some of my Aroy Thai favourites:

sâi kràwk isãan : Isaan-style lightly-fermented pork and rice sausage

khaw mũu yaang náam tòk : “waterfall” pork // grilled pork neck salad

lâap khûa : Northern Thai-style spicy salad with minced pork, garlic, and aromatics

tôm yam lûuk chín néua pèuay : rich, spicy, and sour soup with braised beef and beef meatballs

súp nàw mái : Isaan-style pickled bamboo shoot salad with roasted rice powder

sômtam puu sài khài khẽm : papaya salad with pickled crab and salted duck eggs

    Aroy Thai
    4656 N. Damen
    773.275.8360

Aroy Thai is BYO, so knock yourself out.

And, feel free to call the restaurant if you are running late.

    They know who I am.

    HI,

Please say hello to Extramsg --- I have meeting to attend to. Plus I am not interested in being parked on the Edens Expressway for 2 hours like last night! Allegedly the storms rolling in this evening will be more intense than last night ... we shall see!

    Regards,

just spoke w/nick. great guy. he helped me quite a bit on the portland project i'm involved in, not to mention showing me the kill food. i saw he was located in that area from his sign on name and contacted him before i left.

he actually wants to stop @ al's and manny's on the way to dinner. grilled pig necks are my life. the reason i awoke this am. see you there.

Manny's is only open for breakfast and lunch, closing around 3:00 P.M., so that visit might have to wait until tomorrow.

Well, it turned out to be quite a nice occasion.

There were eight of us, so in addition to those items listed above, I also ordered:

sâi ùa : fried Northern Thai-style spicy red sausage

phàt kha-náa plaa khẽm : stir-fried Chinese broccoli with salty fish

phàt nàw mái náam phrík nùm : pickled bamboo shoots stir-fried with minced pork and green chile sauce

phàt phèt lûuk chín plaa : spicy red curry paste stir-fry with homemade fishballs and Thai eggplants

Consider it Aroy Thai's "Greatest Hits."

I didn't put in the Thai names yet, so please correct the English versions if I screwed up.
