    Nuevo Kappy's...closed?

Calls to Nuevo Kappy's yields the standard "this line disconnected" announcement. Anyone been by there recently?

    Hi,

I have had this happen to me already. I even punched in the number of the awning and got the same message. I contacted Antonius and Amata who then visited them and they were open. It appears they changed their phone number.

Please note this happened within the last 60-90 days, anything could have happened meanwhile.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

This came up last summer, I believe... Someone, maybe Cathy2, had called and gotten that non-response and queried here about NK... I drove by a couple of days later and saw they were open with customers.

Maybe they've just given up phones, maybe they're closed: only way to know for sure is to go there.

Addendum: Yes, now I see it was indeed Cathy!

    Thank you C2 and A.

I'm out of town and cannot drive but -- if I can confirm either way, I will post about it.

I have sad news to report: Kappy's is definitely closed. I went by there earlier today -- gates locked, a For Sale sign on the building, windows covered over with ads for the K department store diagonally across the street.

I really wish they could have succeeded with the delicious and not-so-usual items they offered.

    Amata

p.s. I went instead to La Casa de Samuel and had a huarache de carne asada. They were doing a good lunch business, I'm relieved to say.

Thanks for the recon drive-by Amata -- Kappy's was one of the many places I had been to only once but intended to visit again. Oh well.

It's a sad day when there's one fewer GNR winner around.

I have updated the title of the GNR thread with a "CLOSED" indicator, just like the other two members of the GNR graveyard, Matsumoto and Cafe Salamera.

    Best,
    Michael

Well, the one thing I guess we can say is that in each case, the award was going to a place that really deserved it and could have benefited from our help, such as it is.

Speaking of which, did we ever decide if Steve's is still going?

Man! I was planning to visit Nuevo Kappy's a week or so ago (bringing some welcome relief to a friend in CCH) but decided on the more conservative La Quebrada Which was very good.

Then last week I was headed over to La Milanese and discovered it was closed too so I ended up at Gio's where I got some nice Chicken Vesuvio sandwich (w/ Peas?).

    I better get going!

Boy, that shows how we've grown when La Quebrada is considered good but conservative!

    PS
The wife and I had an excellent lunch at the Cicero branch the other day. Chiliquiles en salsa verde, cecina, for her; two tacos de cecina (beans, guacamole and pico de gallo), one gordita de barbacoa for me. I still believe there is no place that handles masa, outside of Maxwell Street, than this place.
