MJN's column in this week's New City describes his recent trip to Lagniappe, and cites the LTHForum discussion

BTW, MJN writes weekly (or close to) for New City, and I've enjoyed several of his columns. I've particularly gotten some pretty good mileage out of forwarding to a few friends his An Eye for an Eye, about eating un taco de ojo.

    HI,

Learned rather late that Bruce Kraig of Culinary Historians and Monica Eng of the Chicago Tribune were Milt Rosenberg's guests on Ext. 720 on WGN this evening.

I was especially pleased when Bruce Kraig specifically mentioned LTHforum.com, which Monica Eng supported by stating the Chicago Tribune food writers carefully follow this website. Who knew? :D

    Thanks for the mention!

It may turn up for listening here later:

I agree with EC that fruit for dessert sometimes feels like a "letdown" -- also, from a physiological standpoint, I'm not sure it makes sense to have fruit last.

    But I quibble.

Yeah, I'm going to catch a lot of hell for that statement. The real meaning, in context, is that while Bill D. wanted to talk about the dessert aspect of Rosh Hashanah dinner, the real highlight for me has always been the brisket and kreplach. Dessert is just something sweet that comes after I've filled up on the good stuff. (I do love that "kaput", though).

Thanks for the link, Seth. For me, the Chicago essay was much more interesting and more authorative than those from the other cities.

And before I saw the link, I didn't realize that the Museum Campus was halfway between The Art Institute and Navy Pier. I guess it's not surprising, though, given that the site is sponsored by Amstel Light, which is as close to good beer as meat jello is to good barbeque. Wait, I take that back. Comparing Amstel Light to meat jello is an insult to the qualities of meat jello.

Wolf Turds are made with jalapeno peppers

    Bruce,

Once upon a time, in a BBQ land far far away, where Bigwheel's roamed and bread fruit was discussed all day yes, that was true. Though now, meaning current media, internet, recipes, Dragon Turd has come to mean either Hab or Jalapeno.

In this week's Reader, there's an article on Chicago's alternative press. LTH is given prominent mention at the end along with MJN's Hungry Magazine.

The Chicago Reader wrote:Last but not least are the food sites—of which, in keeping with the city’s exploding culinary culture, there are many. Among the best are the newbie Hungry (hungrymag.com), which podcasts proprietor Michael Nagrant’s in-depth, often hilarious interviews with local chefs, and the culinary chat site LTH Forum (lthforum.com), Chicago’s go-to resource for informed, opinionated discussion of everything from the best fish tacos in town to the politics behind the City Council’s recent foie gras follies.

Kudos, LAZ. I don't know how to say this (and maybe I shouldn't say it at all), but how did something that witty and well-written get into the Sun-Times? I picture their editors not knowing what to make of this strange beast called intelligent feature journalism. Condescending and unfair of me, I know (I'm sure there have been other exceptions, and I'm sure the editors are smarter than the paper they put out), but your piece really does stand out in relief to anything else I've read there lately. I hope you'll take that as the compliment (and the genuine puzzlement) it's meant to be.
