I went out to dinner at MJ2 in Park Ridge (not associated with Michael Jordan) which boasted french bistro fusion. Essentially it was bistro based food with several Peruvian influences e.g. we had anticuchos for an appetizer but instead of beef hearts, they used sirloin.
Regardless, we ordered a San Giovese with dinner in the 35 dollar range. The waitress returned and stated that they did not have the aforementioned wine, but would like to suggest two others that might go well with dinner. We tasted both and I forgot which one we chose but it was a very good medium bodied red. However, when we received the check, I was floored to find that we had unwittingly purchased a 65 dollar bottle of wine. Now, I admit that I could have asked how much they were when the server brought them out, but I didn't. On one hand I feel that it was my repsponsibility to find out much it was and the extra money was not that tragic. However, I also feel duped and I would assume that the server should have brought out a financially comperable bottle too. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
