This week's reader has a cover story on Alpana Singh, occasioned, I guess, by the publication of her new book, Alpana Pours.

Nicholas Day wrote:Alpana Pours is probably the only wine book out there that could be excerpted in Cosmo.

The end of the article confirms something I was starting to suspect, which is that there are some efforts being made to groom Ms. Singh into a national food celeb, but she is being cautious about how she enters that arena.

I am not crazy about her on Check Please!, but she's better than Amanda Puck, and ever since the Check Please: Kids! episode, I have had more respect for her based on how well she interacted with her guests.

Apparently she's doing another reading tonight (Friday 10/13) at 57th Street Books and next Wednesday (10/18) at Book Cellar.

She did an interview/wine segment on the Channel 5 News last night as well. She's out there, whether it is to promote her book (likely) or to be seen as a national celeb (maybe as a side benefit).

I agree, Germuska, she was really impressive with those kids- got on their level without being condescending, which one would THINK is easy, but many people can't seem to pull it off.

It'll be interesting to see just how famous she gets. There are times when I find her a bit grating, but for some reason, I think she'd be a lot of fun at a party.
