Neeed Recs: Bar/Restaurant near Soldier Field

Looking to pre-party before the bears game. Would like it to be within walking distance of soldier field. Any suggestions would be great

I'm afraid the only thing within conventional and safe walking distance from Soldier Field (apart from their concessions) is the Corner Bakery Cafe at the Field Museum and to eat there, you'd probably have to buy a museum ticket.

I would plan on someplace in the South Loop and cab it to SF.

Other breakfast places in the area -- that get pretty crowded on Sunday mornings--are Bongo Room and Orange.

None of these places is in spitting distance of Soldier Field, but many, many, many, many Bear fans walk from there and further to reach the park, so you'll be in good company.

Near Dearborn and Polk is a Bar Louie and Hackney's, altho you'll need to check for opening times. Further north on Dearborn is Custom House, which serves a not-inexpensive breakfast on Sundays in refined (altho casual dress is ok on Sunday morning) surroundings.

A little bit further north is the new Plymouth Court (401 S. Plymouth Ct.--just north of the library) which is now open Sunday mornings.

You can eat at the cafe in the Adler without paying to get in. I'm not saying you should go there instead of something interesting in the South Loop or thereabouts... just pointing out that it's there.

I went to the Weather Mark Tavern on Wabash last week for a cocktail. Although the decor is slightly tragic and the bartender poured about 12 oz. of gin in a martini glass, dropped a toothpick of olives in it and called it a martini, I have a feeling the food might be a notch better than the rest of the experience.

I had a bite of ginger-y chicken noodle soup that made me want to give the place a second chance.

If you're interested in beers and food, I'd give this place a shot before attempting a train wreck like Gracey O'Malley's.
