I am looking for a place to have a family dinner next Saturday around 7:30pm. By family I mean everyone, from Grandma in a wheelchair to nephews who are 7 and 9.

There will be 7 adults and 2 children. We're pretty open to most any kind of food (Italian would be good but not mandatory). The kids are adventurous eaters and Grandma can negotiate a few stairs if needed. I would like to be able to make reservations.

    Thanks for any help.

Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba would be a good choice. It's above average tapas (good but not great) and a fun environment for a large group. Plus they take reservations.

BOKA is two and a half blocks south of there. I've had some exceptional meals there, although it's considerably more expensive than BaBaReeba. I think the style would probably be considered contemporary American. The chef is from MK and Spago.

I recommend Vinci at Halsted and Willow. They are very accomodating and the food is excellent. They accept reservations and, based on their popularity with the earlier pre-theater crowd, may not be too busy at that time anyway.

There are a few stairs to navigate, but grandma should be okay...We've dined there with my mother-in-law who has MS (and is confined to a wheelchair) and didn't have any problems. Also, I've seen kids in there on weekend nights and it's not a big deal. I think you will enjoy it.

I haven't been there in years, but what about Cafe Ba-ba-Reeba for Tapas? It is only a few doors from Halsted and Armitage. Tapas is always good for a big group with a variety of tastes, and the place is family friendly. Maybe somebody with some more recent experiences can comment.

edit: I see Ralphie beat me to this rec. Got to be quicker with that submit button. Anyhow, I second the suggestion.

How about Shine/Morida for Japanese or Chinese? It's one of those places that I usually leave thinking "that was better than I expected."

O Fame, on the corner of Webster and Halsted, is a favorite of mine. They have excellent pizza (I believe it is owned by a relative of those who own Armand's), and their pizzas are very similar. A thin crust pizza with a light, tangy sauce and quality toppings. O Fame also has a full dinner menu as well and they are a family-friendly place.

Cafe Bernard is a good bet. Its upscale food in a casual astmosphere at a great price.

Another plug for O' Fame. They serve my favorite thincrust pizza(red sauce, fresh garlic, tomatoes, and basil...for the record) in the city.

And right around the corner from Cafe Bernard is Red Rooster, Cafe Bernard's more casual sister restaurant (I believe they share the same kitchen).
