I stumbled across this link on the Roadfood site, and it appears legit. Fill in your name/address/phone/age/e-mail and they will send you a copy of Anthony Bourdain's "Nasty Bits" absolutely free.

Looks like an Amstel / Heineken promo.

The terms say they'll be accepting requests well into '07 or as long as the supplies last, so presumably they have enough copies to get them through that level of anticipated demand.

And yes, thanks for the pointer. I have a throwaway email address, so I don't care if they spam it, and if they send me junk mail, I'll deal with it.

To anyone that might not have ready access to a throw-away email address, I heartily reccomend http://www.spamgourmet.com/ - it's simple to use and allows you to create unlimited throw-away addresses that all forward to a valid address.

    HI,

I'm still waiting! I know I am on their list because I did get an update e-mail a few weeks ago. They must have been deluged with requests.

I'm nearly done with the book (everything but the fiction at the end), and I have to say, my favorite asshole has mellowed. A couple of the pieces are genuinely uplifting and even optimistic. He liked Vegas despite himself (more than the show episode let on), and sees great possibilities in just about everything except for corporate fast food.

His writing has a great "voice" -- especially if you've heard him on TV, you can hear his patter, patois and cant come through the writing. His humor is infective and had me rolling on the floor at times.

There's a little more insight as to why he's on the Travel Channel instead of Food, he continues his long-running love affair with all things Vietnamese, and his fandom for the work ethic of immigrants.

It's a highly recommended read. It's in nice, small, bathroom-break-sized chunks so it's not a big investment in your mental space. Savor the Nasty Bits.

I hope you find this book worth the wait: it was one of the most enjoyable food-related reads of last year (I got tired of waiting and took it out of the library). Though far from ground-breaking, it turned me around regarding Bourdain, who I used to think was an arrogant putz...which he is, but I now appreciate him for other qualities as well.
