Just found a long lost relative. Lives in South Elgin...want to take him out for lunch/ brunch Sunday. He mentioned "St.Charles Place" Any info? Don't know...any thing else out there?

Is it St. Charles Cpmmons? If so, it is largely chain restaurants along Randall Rd.

There are quite a few decent places in downtown St. Charles near the river.

St Charles Place is an old school steakhouse. I haven't been there in a few years but my foggy memory of the place was that it was decent. Friends and relatives who are trustworthy food wise have been more recently and advised good things about it. Don't look for cutting edge cuisine here, but if you are looking for a good steak and shrimp de johnge or Beef Wellington on the weekends this is your place. Lunch items as recommended to me are the burger and the NY Strip sandwich with blue cheese.

A nice and reasonable brunch can be had at the Hotel Baker in downtown St. Charles as well. We went about a year ago and it was in the $20 range. It's not extravagant as evidenced by the price, but a good value for what is provided and includes champagne. The room itself is a knockout and the various main floor public rooms in the hotel are worth exploring if you appreciate old buildings.

You're probably thinking of Geneva Commons -- a Randall Road lifestyle center/strip mall development with a Red Star Tavern and a few other chain places.

The Hotel Baker is nice, but I've never been to brunch there. There also is Atwater's in the Herrington Inn in Geneva...Very nice. There is quite a bit downtown Geneva, and the downtown itself definitely is worth checking out.

    You are right.

My suggestion would be Erik and Me for Sunday brunch.
