St Charles Place is an old school steakhouse. I haven't been there in a few years but my foggy memory of the place was that it was decent. Friends and relatives who are trustworthy food wise have been more recently and advised good things about it. Don't look for cutting edge cuisine here, but if you are looking for a good steak and shrimp de johnge or Beef Wellington on the weekends this is your place. Lunch items as recommended to me are the burger and the NY Strip sandwich with blue cheese.
A nice and reasonable brunch can be had at the
Hotel Baker in downtown St. Charles as well. We went about a year ago and it was in the $20 range. It's not extravagant as evidenced by the price, but a good value for what is provided and includes champagne. The room itself is a knockout and the various main floor public rooms in the hotel are worth exploring if you appreciate old buildings.
