Since you said "best," I'll refrain from mentioning Pete's, which is a very dingy greasy spoon adjoining the Howard station. (Well, I guess I just mentioned it, but I've never eaten there, and haven't really meant to try it either...)
My one visit was not too inspiring, but
Gruppo di Amici is right off the Jarvis stop. Some folks have had pretty good experiences.
At Morse, if you go out the "back door" of the station, you'll find the Heartland Cafe right there at Lunt and Glenwood. The food is not anything I have ever craved, but it's notable for a nice outdoor dining area and a pretty good bar.
My favorite place near the northern end of the red line would be Ethiopian Diamond, which is a short walk from the Granville stop.
