    Hi

Lots of restaurants have events on a regular basis (wine dinners, regional food whatevers, etc.) Anyone else here a regular at these?

We try to get to Cafe Matou's monthly regional dinners, Vinci's monthly wine dinners, and Kendall College's monday night banquet series.

I've taken a sabbatical, as I've just gone fulltime freelance, but for several years, I made it to almost every month to the "Tour de France Gastronomique" dinners at Le Titi de Paris the last Friday of each month.

Last Thursday of the month, MAS for the wine dinner. Excellent, unpretenious and Hubie G. makes it fun for everyone.

Tried the wine dinner at West Town Tavern and it was a disaster.

    nicinchic,

I am curious about your disastrous wine dinner at West Town Tavern because the five or so times I have been there everything was great -- admittedly I have never been to one of the wine dinners. What made it a disaster?

I will preface that I have been to West Town Tavern at least 20 times. I am a huge fan, and still frequent the restaurant. I went to one wine dinner and didn't go back to the restaurant for 3 months because I was so dissapointed with the service and food.
We specifically chose the wine night as it was New Zealand wines, and I am a huge fan of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. My husband is a bigger fan of lamb. Naturally, we thought they would be serving food and wine from NZ.
That dinner we were served if I remember correctly was a crab cake, a small salad and over done pork loin (really it was so small it was barely a medallion). And when I say over done, I mean one side was charred black and it actually tasted more like liquid smoke. Utterly awful. This was the first time we had taken friends of ours after we had raved about WTT. We were absolutely mortified. The wine they served was from a small vintner, she was not prepared to talk about the wine, even less interested in selling wine, and we got ONE very small splash of wine, for each course. So, three small glasses. No topping up and certainly not two glasses. It was embarrasing at $50 a person. ( we would have had a better meal had we ordered the mussels, pot roast and a bottle of wine for our $)
MAS wine dinners are a delight. I hate to talk about them too much on web sites, as they are crowded already.
