Thanks for all the great suggestions. Makes me realize that I need to get hungover more often to fully take advantage of all these fine options.
Though I couldn't go too far afield, as I was in very poor shape and on foot, I started out on wobbly legs towards Wells street thinking either La Cocina or Harold's or whatever struck my fancy. Unfortunately, my stubby, shaky legs and a serious wave of wooziness overtook me about a block from my office. Since I was in front of the AT&T building I went to the cafeteria on the 2d floor in search of the greasiest burger I could find. What I found was a dry hockey-puck of a burger, with fries that were prepared well ahead of the lunch rush. I painstakingly shook Frank's hot sauce into a little plastic to-go thing , loaded up on mayo (yes, I love mayo on a crappy burger), and several ketchup & mustard packs. Disgusting and wrong? yes. Did it hit the spot despite its many and varied shortcomings? oh yeah.
Thanks to one and all for the ideas, and particularly, Gary, for the reminder about Jim's pork chop sandwiches. Man I love those things and need to get back there. Another pointed thanks to WhiskeyBent for reminding me of the Skyride. Ahh, many good times have been had at the Skyride.
