Does anyone like these? I think they are a chain of some sort. I don't know the name. I think they give you a choice of different foods to cook, at your table.

If you are referring to the Melting Pot. I have been there before and even though it is a chain restaurant I would recommend it.
It is expensive but the quality of the food is good. It's not as greasy and heavy as Geja's. Far more flavor combinations than Geja's too.
I believe Thursday night they offer $15 fondue special. It includes a cheese fondue, chocolate fondue and salad. Drinks are separate. The service is good. After my first visit I received a hand written note from our waiter thanking us for our visit.

My experience with Melting Pot has been good so far.

I ate at Melting Pot recently & was pleasantly surprised. I was dragged there by a bunch of younger cousins who love the place - the service is good, food is quite acceptable & relatively inexpensive, generous portions (its easy to over order if you're not careful, but the servers aren't pushy, just order half of what you think you'll eat - they provide unlimited bread & vegs for the fondues & its easy to fill up - for six people we ordered two cdifferent heese fondues to start, one main meat/veg & one chocolate & it was more than enough) & a remarkably good wine list with a tasting room/wine bar off the main dining area.

Could someone please post address and phone number for the restaurant under discussion? Thanks.

I've been to Melting Pot a few times only because its Buffalo Grove location is closer to home, and although they dazzle you with their array of different meats & sauces, I'm not impressed. The marinated meats are heavily salted, thus they dry out very quickly when cooked. Prices are high, respectively, and each time we've dined there, the young waitstaff has insisted on a 10-minute spiel on every nuance and bit of minutiae on the Melting Pot, its history, and the way things should be done there. My God, this wasn't splitting the atom! I was exhausted before I ate.

This is a typical case of attempting to re-invent the wheel. For me, Geja's has always been a good standby, but I prefer Fondue Stube on Peterson east of California, where the decor is 70's, geez....right about the time that fondue was popular. No-nonsense, professional service, plenty of room at the table, fresh meats & vegetables, killer martinis, decadent chocolate fondue for dessert.

Check my previous post on Fondue Stube, among others who are big fans of this relic, but a good relic.

I've never really been blown away by any fondue place (Geja's, Melting Pot, etc). They're expensive for what you get, plus you walk out smelling like the place. The one time I went to the downtown Melting Pot, I thought it had all the atmosphere of a feed lot at Disney World.

FWIW, the URL Christopher posted will eventually stop pointing to the thread he means to show you -- note the "previous" in it, which means that it is relative to another post. Eventually a post near that one will get bumped an the link won't work any more.

Here's one that should be good forever -- you can always get this by clicking on the thread title at the top of the page:

I've always felt the same way, if not worse. Of course, I've only been once and that was to Fondue Stube many years ago. My main recollection is spending a lot of money and after we were done going across the street to Wolfy's so I didn't go home hungry.

FWIW, I like Geja's for the atmosphere and the extensive wine list. Yeah, it's a little pricey for food you have to cook yourself, but it beats many chain versions of fondue.
