I've been to Melting Pot a few times only because its Buffalo Grove location is closer to home, and although they dazzle you with their array of different meats & sauces, I'm not impressed. The marinated meats are heavily salted, thus they dry out very quickly when cooked. Prices are high, respectively, and each time we've dined there, the young waitstaff has insisted on a 10-minute spiel on every nuance and bit of minutiae on the Melting Pot, its history, and the way things should be done there. My God, this wasn't splitting the atom! I was exhausted before I ate.
This is a typical case of attempting to re-invent the wheel. For me, Geja's has always been a good standby, but I prefer Fondue Stube on Peterson east of California, where the decor is 70's, geez....right about the time that fondue was popular. No-nonsense, professional service, plenty of room at the table, fresh meats & vegetables, killer martinis, decadent chocolate fondue for dessert.
Check my previous post on Fondue Stube, among others who are big fans of this relic, but a good relic.
