I'm sorry if this has already been covered but my search didn't return any useful results.

Does anyone know of a place, preferably on the north side or in the northern suburbs, where these dogs are available on a retail basis? A friend on the east coast is doing some regional hotdog comparisons and I thought it might be worth sending him a few of these dogs for his trials.

It could also work if anyone knows of a foodservice outlet that would be willing to sell off a few uncooked ones. I can vacuum seal them myself before shipping.

    Thanks,

Red Hot Chicago's retail product recently started showing up at Fairplay Foods out here in the south suburbs. They are 8:1 and skinless.

Thanks for the info and no worries about the image. The best camera is the one you have with you. :)

    Ron,

Count me among the fans of Red Hot Chicago, started by the grandson of the founder of Vienna Sausage with an eye toward Vienna's original recipe.

Looking at the Red Hot Chicago web site it seems they are set up for shipping through Irving's, though no mention of natural casing or skinless. I'd be damn sure I was shipping natural casing before sending to your friend.

Red Hot Chicago was, and may still be, located in the Fulton Market area, though the web site says W Armitage, I'm guessing you could buy direct.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

Thanks, Gary, for the info and the link. The site you link above -- filled with all sorts of useful information -- is not the same (wrong) one I found earlier today, via a search engine. I should have kept looking and found the right site.

Any suggestions on what else to send him are most welcome. So far, I've got Vienna, Leon's, Best Kosher, Eisenberg and (now) Red Hot Chicago. Is Sinai 48 still produced as a separate brand? I'm not sure sending something from a place like Paulina Market would be relevant for his purposes, but maybe I should throw some of their dogs in too.

I was in Jerry's Produce (Milwaukee ave and Oakton) a few weeks back and they were selling the Sinai 48.

    Ronnie,

Besides the standard 8/lb Viennas, you might also send some of the 4/lb natural casing dogs they make. I'm quite fond of them. Also, how about some of the recently discussed garlic dogs from Romanian Kosher Sausage?

Thanks, Gus and Steve. Doh! How could I forget Romanian? That's a great suggestion and I'll definitely pick some of those up.

Also, last time I checked, 4/# natural casing dogs were available at the deli counter at Sunset. I just can't remember if they were Vienna or Best's Kosher. I'll report back.

I don't know about Sunset, but they are available at E&M all the time. We had some that I purchased there at the LTH Forum picnic last year.

Thanks, Steve. The information is much appreciated. E&M is very nearby.

Thanks, LAZ. IIRC, those are the dogs they sell at their "foodcourts," too.

Don't forget Moo Doggy Beef Dinner Franks from (who else?) Moo & Oink! I haven't tried these so can't vouch for them but they should at least be good for amusement.
