OK, g.f. and I were coming back from Ravinia last night (Sunday, 10:30pm) and our last meal was at 2pm at the New Maxwell St. market (mega-mexican)

We were discussing our options for late night treats/snacks/bust a gut. As you know, I am always putting down the north sides choices for food because I am a fan of everything from da sout side....ok enough politics.

    1) Me - Where can you go on the north side for just a slice of pizza, late night or not? On the south side we have pizza nova.

    2) Me - Where can you go on the north side for a yummy dog or polish? On the south side we have Maxwell St. Polish along the Dan Ryan.

    3) Me - Where on the north side can you go for late night chicken? On the south side we have Harold's Chicken. Well, we found Popeye's at Western and Addison to be open.

    4) Me - Where on the north side can you go for good baseball? Sorry, I always have to throw that in.

Can anyone help out the g.f. by supplying some answers/choices to the questions above - other than taquerias please!!

On Saturday night we did enjoy a nice late-night plate of fried calamari for $4 after Summerdance at Cy's Crabhouse on Ashland (at the bar only).

    THANKS!!

If you're heading thru Evanston, Philly's Best is open until midnight for pizza slices and Evanston Chicken Shack is open until 12:30 AM for a grease fix.

3)-There is a Harold's (on North Clark I think)-Also for a different style, people here seem to love the Korean chicken at Great Sea on Lawrence.
4)-Little League games at the park on Damen south of Belmont.
    I love animals...they're delicious!

I've never eaten their hot dogs (I'm a vegetarian), but I like the french fries at Susie's on Montrose, and I understand they are open 24-7.

Anywhere on the north side, or are you talking about a specific neighborhood or area?

I wanted to stay within a reasonable distance to Lincoln Square.

    Thx!

We went for late night food after last night's Ravinia concert too! We must have been at the same show. For us the meal of choice was Pakistani food at Ghareeb Nawaz on Devon. At 11pm it was packed. We had our fill for about $5 total for 2 people. The chili chicken paratha was delicious - paratha was nicely charred and not at all too oily. My partner enjoyed his chana paratha.

I don't know about pizza, dogs, chicken, or baseball though...

But be sure to check out their closing time. The one on South Wabash is closed at the ridiculously early hour of 10:00 pm (And it's practically right next to Buddy Guy's, too!)

These don't really meet the request for late night options, (especially Doug's, which isn't even open at dinner time).

My answer to the pizza question is Gigio's--midnight all week, 2am on weekends (Fri/Sat), the closest thing to a New York slice that this displaced Brooklynite has found. Delicious. Superdelicious. Mere steps from the el, even.

    O,

GNR winnerSan Soo Gap San, open till 5am and points beyond, is one of the better late night options in Chicago. And, according to the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce, just on the Northern Edge of Lincoln Square.

    Enjoy,

The Harold's in RP is open until 1 am (I think), but they seem to often run out of chicken late at night (why stay open?). Anyhow, this information would not have helped you, since they are closed on Sundays.

The bar at the Fireside Restaurant stays open until 4, and they serve food until 3. They have a surprisingly good beer selection on tap and in bottles, and the food is good enough to sop up the beer. Actually, the catfish is pretty good, and the steaks are decent for the price (and they really hit the spot at 2 am).

    Dave,

Catfish, I'm assuming fried, available at 1am on the Northside, yee howdy!

No sorry, actually their specialty is blackened catfish. It is pretty good though. They also make a decent catfish sandwich. Like I said, it is great for sopping up that last half gallon of beer.

The ribs there are some weird hybrid thing. They smoke them for 4 hours, then slather them with sauce and "bake them to perfection". Talk about a waste (like they aren't "perfect" when they come out of the smoker). I guess they are trying to please everybody.

Some people like the pizza, but it is a little too New York for my taste  .

I should have known better than to mention the New Yorkishness of Gigio's pizza on this forum, lest I raise the hackles of committed pizza stylists. I've been reading along for a long time, I know how sensitive people are.

I jest, of course, but I wasn't referring to your post. I was actually kind of serious about the pizza being too "New York" for me.

I have a friend from NYC who also likes the slices at Gigios. I think he is more enamored with the idea of getting a slice than the pizza itself. He also likes going to JB Alberto's in Rogers Park late at night for the same reason. They sell pizza by the slice until 2 am (at least they used to). Personally, I think it's pretty bad (and certainly not worth a trip to Morse avenue after midnight), but he seems to like it. Again, I think it is that slice thing.

    A new addition:

Late Night Thai, 1650 W Belmont, open 9 PM to 5 AM (just not sure of the days of week...)

Currently have a more Americanized Thai menu, but are soon adding a more "authentic" Thai menu. Unsure if it will be in English, but the owner will surely translate or help you order.

Could this be a reincarnation of River Kwai II? I think it's the same address, and sounds like similar hours...
