A few months back I received a menu brochure in the mail from Felix Kitchen in Highwood. It's a take-out Chinese food establishment. I haven't seen anything on this forum so I thought I'd get the word out.
I was intrigued by the four coupons attached to the menu brochure - Over $10 get 2 eggroll FREE, Over $15 - Free order of Crab Ragoon, Over $20 - Free order of Chicken Fried Rice, Free order of Orange Chicken with purchase over $30.
I also noted that they have some 26 luncheon entrees that include an egg roll and chicken fried rice for $4.65. The lunch includes a free can of soda pop so with tax it comes to five bucks.
So I decided to give it a try one nice day at lunch. I love noodles and I ordered the shrimp lo mein (no rice). The owner took the order and had two chefs working in back. I took the food over to the Moraine Park and found that the dish was delicious. It was also an extremely large portion.
We've had food delivered for dinner some six or so times since then. All of the dishes that we've order were quite good and very reasonably priced. We've had a couple of "house specials" - the Garlic Delight (shrimp, beef, chicken in a garlic black bean sauce) and Seafood with Lobster Sauce. We've also ordered the Beef Satay, Curry Chicken with Onion (nice and spicy), the Mongolian Beef and the dinner order of the Shrimp Lo Mein. Many of the dishes are available in small orders as well as large ones, so you can sample lots of food.
The only dishes that I had problems with were some of the vegetable dishes. The few that we ordered were quite heavy on the broccoli. Maybe he got a special deal on broccoli that week.
I noted that parts of the menu are in Spanish. The delivery guy tells me that the owner, Felix, is Chinese but spent considerable time in (I seem to recall) Costa Rica.
I suggest that you try his lunch and take it to a park one nice summer day. Make sure that you grab a full menu while you're waiting for your food. I don't have any idea of his deliver area for dinner, but you can always ask.
Felix Kitchen is located at 114 Washington Ave. Highwood, in the same strip mall as Casa del Norte. The phone number is 847-433-8809 or 8891. They're closed on Monday, but opened from 11 am to 9 pm on Tues. - Sat. and 2 pm to 9 pm on Sun.
Anyone else tried his food and have any comments?
