I don't think fig trees grow in the Midwest. The winters are too cold.

A co-worker here in NYC grows white and black figs in her backyard in Queens. I was surprised when she brought in a bag and they were as sweet as any I've had (well, maybe not Palestine sweet).
New York's climate is marginally warmer than that of the lower Midwest. Chicago figs? Why not?
